FluffyQueenie shows how you can wear shiny clothes like latex even if you’re plus-size. She has been using Vivishine products for latex care for many years and answers our questions in this interview.
Welcome FluffyQueenie to the interview - why don't you briefly introduce yourself?
Hi I’m Queenie, yes as you said I inspire and motivate people of all sizes to try latex clothing and alternative materials and fashion in general. The focus is on radical self-acceptance instead of pressure, judgment and condemnation. You can find my work online on my social media channels, on my own blog and also at workshops and trade fairs.
What is the connection between your work/content and latex?
It’s not easy to have a fat body in society. We all know that obesity is a disease, and unfortunately many people use their weight as a reason to treat those affected disrespectfully and to be ableist. Fashion is already difficult anyway, and then in the context of body-emphasizing, expressive strength is even more of a challenge for many with the social devaluations and prejudices. It’s all about creativity, expression and the right to show yourself.
On the one hand, I associate latex with a kind of outcry due to its shine, its special properties, its eye-catching nature and at the same time as a wonderful design element. and experimentation. Latex clothing is and must be made by hand anyway. If you want it to fit really well, regardless of size, it is best to have it made to measure. The step of adapting latex to all bodies is not that difficult.
Latex has helped me to get to know and accept my own body in a different way (which doesn’t mean I can’t still work on it and with myself).
What do you think is the difference between latex and other materials?
Each material naturally has its own individual advantages and special features.
What I like about latex is primarily the feel, the cozy, enveloping, but also stretchy, adaptable quality. But I also like the fact that it comes in different thicknesses, which allows you to create completely different garments that drape or shape.
However, other materials also have their appeal. I’m now experimenting a lot with PVC, mesh and other synthetic textiles to combine new looks. With Viviwash, I can also care for them perfectly.
At the end of the day, it’s about harmony, balance and intention, and not about looking slimmer, concealing and hiding. That’s what I want to show and communicate.
Do you wear latex every day?
Hihi, even if many would like to hear the answer “yes”, that’s not the reality for me. I do try to combine everyday looks, so you can definitely wear a slightly thicker latex jacket over a sweater, or even a skater skirt can be wonderfully staged. But overall, the material is also sensitive and requires a lot of care. I wear latex a lot because of my job as a content creator, but not 24/7.
What tips do you give beginners?
Perhaps experiment with pieces of clothing that you already know and feel comfortable with in other materials and convert them into latex.
You can make a great start with a skirt, leggings, shirt or blouse. Pay attention to which latex fabric is used for the colors, e.g. whether Radical, Supatex or other. It is best to ask the designer/shop to measure you directly.
Inform yourself well about the right care with Vivishine so that you can enjoy your latex clothing for a long time. Don’t listen to any styling myths that restrict you, but do what you feel like doing. Your feeling is more important than what other people like or don’t like.
